I heard the tractor and looked up to see Papa, Davey and Mama coming up the lane from the hay field.
Papa was driving the tractor and Davey and Mama were riding on the wheel finders. They had another wagon load full of hay bales.
I was afraid that I was going to get into trouble for letting Danny help me.
Papa pulled the tractor to a stop along side us.
"Well, look it there, Dora," he said to Mama.
"What a fine job you two are doing on that fence," said Mama smiling.
"Teamwork," said Papa.
"Two hands are better than one, I always say."
"Teamwork," I thought to myself.
Just like Davey and Mama helping Papa in the fields, Danny was helping me with my job. We all would get the work done quicker with more helpers.
"If you could just get a couple more helpers, Emmy, you'd have that fence painted in no time," Papa laughed.
Mama jumped down from the tractor.
"Danny, we are about to go in and have some lunch. Do you want to come eat with us?" asked Mama.
"You bet!" exclaimed Danny. "I gotta call my Mother first and ask, but I'm sure it will be all right."
We walked up to the house with Mama, while Davey and Papa drove the tractor around to the back of the barn.
Mama called to us to wash up at the sink while she got salad and hamburgers out of the refrigerator to fix for lunch.
Danny got on the phone and called his mother.
"She said I could stay all day if I wanted to," he reported to us as he hung up the phone.
