On the way home, Emmy and Mama talked about what happened.  

"Emmy...all parents tell their kids not to do certain things.   When we do that, we aren't being mean.   We know what can happen and we are trying to keep you from getting hurt."  

"I know, Mama," Emmy said as she wiped a tear off her cheek.   "I told him not to."  

"He was probably just showing off for you, Honey.   Next time you think he might get hurt doing something or if he is doing something you know he shouldn't do...just tell him you are leaving and then walk away."  

"Walk away?"  

"Yes...if you aren't there to watch, there won't be anyone to show off for and he will probably follow you.   You can be the leader and help him stay out of trouble."  

"Okay.   Is he going to be all right?"  

"I'm sure he will be.   Just let this day be a lesson to both of you to mind your parents."
