Emmy stared at the snake. She was afraid to move. The snake turned its head as if it had heard a sound.
Emmy heard Jimmy bark and looked up to see him limping quickly up the lane from the woods.
Emmy heard Papa whistle for Jimmy.
Jimmy saw Emmy and limped up to the edge of the muddy pond. He wagged his tail and barked.
The snake heard the sound and crawled away to the edge of the mud and slithered off into the grass.
Emmy yelled at Jimmy. "Good boy, Jimmy."
Jimmy started to come out into the muddy pond, but Emmy stopped him.
"No, boy. Stop!!! Go Back. Lay down."
Jimmy stopped and layed down by the pond's edge.
Emmy yelled and screamed for her father.
"Papa! Papa! HELP!!!"
