ERNIE MCGEE AND THE TREE

"How did you get so high up in that tree, Ernie McGee?" asked the children far below.

"I climbed," said Ernie.

"Are you going to come down?"

"No, I can see to the edge of town.   I like this tree," said Ernie McGee.

Mr. Cooper from the grocery store, strolled by under the tree.

Ernie dropped an acorn on Mr. Cooper's head.   Mr. Cooper looked high up in the tree.

"How did you get so high up in that tree, Ernie McGee?" asked Mr. Cooper.

"I climbed," said Ernie.

"Are you going to come down?"

"No, I can see to the edge of town.   I like this tree," said Ernie McGee.

The wind blew and the branches swayed.

High up in the tree, Ernie swayed with them.

A cat wandered beneath the tree.

Ernie dropped an acorn on the cat's nose.

The cat ran away.

"How did you get so high up in that tree, Ernie McGee?" asked the policeman far below.

"I climbed," said Ernie.

"Are you going to come down?"

"No, I can see to the edge of town.   I like this tree," said Ernie McGee.

The policeman walked off to tell Ernie's mother that her son was high up in a tree.

"How did you get so high up in that tree, Ernie McGee?" asked his mother far below.

"I climbed," said Ernie.

"Ernie, get out of that tree.   Now!   Come down."

"No, I can see to the edge of town.   I like this tree," said Ernie McGee.

Ernie swayed back and forth in the branches.

He could see for miles and miles.

Ernie's mother went to get a ladder to get her son down from high up in the tree.

Ernie looked out at the park.

It was getting rather dark.

"It is time to come down from the tree," said Ernie McGee.

Ernie's mother came back with the ladder.

Ernie stood on the ground, looking high up at the tree.

"How did you get down from that tree, Ernie McGee?" asked Ernie's mother.

"I climbed," said Ernie.
