Chapter Fifteen

Gramma and Momma liked to go see the movies in town.   Sometimes they took me with them, if it was a Disney movie.

We saw "Bambi" and I got to crying so hard when they killed Bambi's mother that Grandma had to take me to a special room called the "crying room".   This was suppose to be where Momma's could take their babies and still watch the movie and if the baby cried, it wouldn't disturb anyone.

Momma tried to explain to me that "it's only a movie" and said I couldn't go to any more movies if I was going to cry.   I promised that I would never cry again.

The next movie we went to see was called "Lassie Come Home".   It was a movie about a dog that gets lost and travels all the way back home.   On his trip, he gets hurt and cuts his feet and is bleeding and dying, but manages to finally get home.

I wailed and wailed and cried about the "poor doggy."

Momma was so embarrassed.   I cried so loudly that no one else in the audience could hear the movie.   Grandma had to take me to the baby room again.   I think that was the last time they took me to a movie about animals!

When I got older, Grandma and I went to the movie every Friday night.   No matter what!

One of her friends told her, "If the President was coming for a visit on Friday night, you would have to tell him no, because you've got to go to the movies!"

Grandma said, "Well, I gave her my word."   "We are going to the movie."

We saw really neat movies like "First Spaceship on the Moon", and "The Greatest Show On Earth", that was about a circus, and "Annie Get Your Gun", which was about a girl sharpshooter in the rodeo.   We saw lots of cowboy movies and science fiction movies, my favorite.

Afterwards, we always stopped at the ice cream parlor and had a double dip of vanilla ice cream.
