Chapter Eighteen

Grandma's house had a big front porch that was screened in so the bugs couldn't get in during the summer months.   One of my favorite things was to sit out there on the swing that was hooked into the ceiling at one end of the porch.   I'd swing and listen to the windchimes, chiming in the breeze.

I liked to get a glass of ice cubes from Grandma's refrigerator and then sprinkle salt over the ice cubes.   The salt made them snap and crackle.   I'd sit in the swing, crunch on ice cubes, while Grandma sat in her lounge chair and read to me or took a nap.   It was a pleasant way to spend a few hours in the afternoon.

But, there always came the time when I had to go back home to my Momma and Daddy.   I was never sad though, because my Grandma's were very close by and I knew that I would see them almost every day.

If Grandma wasn't dropping in to visit, we were going down to her house, or to Great Grandma Sophia's.

I had a wonderful childhood.   Living on the farm with Momma and Daddy and having my Grandma's close by.

I was very lucky.
