The next week, as Arthur J. Warner the Second rode his bike around the neighborhood to deliver papers, Rocky trotted beside him.
When the other kids came whizzing by on their skateboards or bikes and tried to push Arthur J. Warner the Second off his bike, Rocky barked and nipped at their ankles.
None of them got close enough to Arthur J. Warner the Second to even slow him down.
Rocky was his protector.
He looked very ferocious and scared the other kids.
Arthur J. Warner the Second was a very smart boy.
He took a big golf umbrella of his father's and made a harness to put around Rocky's middle.
The harness held the umbrella over Rocky and on days that it rained, the umbrella protected Rocky The Water Chicken Dog from the rain and he wasn't afraid.
Rocky The Water Chicken Dog never won a prize for being the best retriever in town, but he won the love of Arthur J. Warner the Second for being his best friend and keeping him safe.
And, that is the most important prize ever!
