Freddy stood on a wooden box next to Pa at the wool baling table.
"Pa, did that guy have sheep on his boat?"
"What guy...what boat...what are you talking about?"
"That guy that Reverend Hudson was talking about last night."
"Oh...you mean, Noah?"
"Yeah, that guy. Did he have sheep on his boat?"
"Noah had a pair of every animal that was on the earth. Cows and horses, pigs and chickens and yes...even sheep."
"Wow...he must have had a big boat."
"His boat was called an ark. It was made out of Gopher wood. It was three hundred cubits long, fifty cubits wide and thirty cubits high."
"Pa...how many feet is a cubit?"
"A cubit is eighteen inches long. That's a foot and another half a foot."
"So, how many feet long was the boat...ah, I mean ark?"
"I can't figure this out right now, Freddy. Help me finish packing up all this wool. When we get into the house, Ma can help you figure it out with a pencil and paper."
Freddy leaned against the table. He put his elbows on the table and leaned his chin on his hands.
"Pa, what's Gopher wood?"
"I don't know," said Pa as he continued to pack the wool into a bale. "The kind of trees where Noah lived...I guess."
Freddy thought some more. "Did Noah have elephants on his ark?"
"Yes," said Pa.
"Did he have dogs and cats?"
"Yes. Noah had a male and female of every animal on the earth."
Freddy stood up quickly and turned to look at Pa.
"Ah...did Noah have dinosaurs on his ark?"
"No," answered Pa.
"Why not? Didn't they have dinosaurs back them?"
Pa took a deep breath and let it out.
"Freddy...please...not so many questions.
I just want to pack up this wool and get this job done...okay?"
