The last sheep had been shorn and put back in the pen. They looked so funny without their wooly fleece coats. Some of them shivered in the cool air, but they were standing quietly while their lambs nursed.
"Well, Walter, that finishes the job," said the foreman. "Here is your bill for the shearing. You had a nice wool crop this year."
"I have to go up to the house to get your money. I will be back before you get your trucks loaded."
Freddy ran along beside Pa. He wanted to get a warm bottle of milk so he could feed Sluggo.
The sun had come out. The rain had stopped.
As Freddy turned to ask Pa another question, his mouth dropped open in surprise.
"He grabbed Pa's hand and tired to turn him around.
"Pa...look! Turn around and look!"
Pa turned to glance back toward the barn. A breathtaking double rainbow arched across the eastern sky. One end of the rainbow shone on the roof of the barn.
"Praise God," whispered Pa.
Freddy ran into the house.
"Ma, come look...hurry! The rain has stopped and there is a rainbow!"
Freddy grabbed Ma's hand and pulled her out of the house. She ran out into the driveway and up to Pa, giving him a hug.
"Walter...look! God's promise to us that there will never be another world flood."
"Not just any rainbow either," said Freddy. It's a double rainbow. I guess God is really happy and it won't rain anymore until Pa gets all his crops planted."
