Chapter

After a shower and lunch, the girls got ready for a hike.

"Hey kid, why don't you stay here and take a nap?" asked Mary.

"Yeah," chimed in alicia, "If you go, you'll probably get lost and we'll have to come and find you."

"Now girls," scolded Mrs. Higgins.

"Hurry up.   Mr. Dobson is waiting for you."

The girls hurried through the door, looking back at Karen and giggling to each other.

Mr. Dobson led them up a hilly path into the woods.

Karen walked along behind them.

"Hey, does anyone want to go spelunking?" asked Mr. Dobson.

"Spelunking? What's that?" asked Heather.

"Exploring a cave," answered Karen softly.

"That's right, Karen," said Mr. Dobson.

"Are you all up for exploring a cave?"

"All right! Neat! Cool!" yelled the girls as they ran ahead.

"Let's all stay together," called Mr. Dobson.

He pulled large flashlights from his backpack and gave them to the girls.   They all entered the cave opening.

The walls were narrow and close, making the cave seem like a tunnel.

It was cool and dark inside.

"Be careful of loose rocks, girls," cautioned Mr. Dobson.

"You don't want to slip and fall."

"This is way cool," said Mary, as they walked further into the cave.
