Stuart was sleeping. He was dreaming that he was laying in the sun. He felt so warm.
Stuart felt something pulling at his shirt sleeve. He woke up and jumped at what he saw. A horse was nibbling at the straw that stuck out of the end of Stuart's sleeve.
"Hey, cut that out!" yelled Stuart.
Charlie woke up. He flapped his wings and flew up to the top of the ladder.
"What's all that racket? You scared me awake. What's going on down there?" asked Charlie.
Sammy, the big barn cat stretched and yawned. He had been sleeping in the hay loft.
"Me-ows making all that noise?" Sammy growled.
When Charlie saw the cat he flew down and perched on Stuart's shoulder.
"He kid, let's get out of here," he whispered. "There's a cat in here. Birds and cats don't get along."
"That horse was trying to eat me!" said Stuart. "Don't worry about the cat, I'll scare him away. Find me some more straw for my arm!"
The horse poked his big head through the opening in the stall. He stretched forward for another nibble of Stuart. Charlie pecked him on the nose.
"Get away from here," said Charlie. "Leave the kid's arm alone. He's had enough trouble for one day."
The horse blinked his eyes from the pain on his nose. He stepped back into his stall.
"Well, I thought he was part of my breakfast," he said. "I was just hungry."
Charlie looked around the barn. He saw Sammy the cat watching him from the hay loft above. Sammy's yellow eyes glinted in the light. He thought Charlie would make a fine breakfast.
Charlie pointed with his wing and Stuart looked up at the cat.
"Shoo," he said. "Shoo...get out of here!"
Sammy jumped down to the barn floor. He slowly turned to walk away. He stopped at the barn door, turned and looked over his shoulder at Charlie.
"Get!" yelled Stuart, kicking his leg in Sammy's direction. "Scat, cat!"
Sammy ran out of the door and across the lane toward the house.
"He's gone, Charlie. "Now will you please help me?" asked Stuart.
