Chapter Twenty-One

Stuart, Horace and Charlie were so tired and slept so soundly that they did not even feel the trailer move in the early morning light.

Mr.Simpson hooked his pick-up truck to the trailer and drove down the driveway.   He wanted to buy a new riding horse for his daughter.   She was eight-years-old and had just started riding lessons.   Mr. Simpson wanted to get just the right horse for her.   One that was gentle, but one that she could grow up with.   He thought that she would like a jet black horse.

His neighbor had told him that there was going to be a horse auction at the stockyards that day.   Mr. Simpson had to get an early start as the stockyard was quite a distance away.

As he drove along, he thought that perhaps he could also look for a pony for his son.   His son was still too young for riding lessons and a big horse, but a pony would be fun for him.   Mr. Simpson's trailer was large enough to hold both a horse and a pony.

He didn't know that he had company.

He didn't know that Horace, Charlie, and Stuart were sleeping in the back of his trailer.

What would they do when they woke up?

Stuart's head bumped against the side wall of the trailer.   He woke up and shook his head.   Where was he?

He remembered that he and Charlie and Horace had climbed into a horse trailer late last night to get out of the rain and get some sleep.   Horace was standing there in front of him and Charlie was perched, asleep, on Horace's shoulder.

Stuart could see the walls of the trailer in the dim morning light, but the trailer felt as it if was moving.   Just then, the trailer went over a bump and Stuart realized that it WAS moving.

The trailer was moving and they were in it!
